World Wetlands Day Event

2nd February every year is World Wetlands Day (WWD) to commemorate the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat (commonly known as the "Ramsar Convention"), signed in Ramsar, Iran on 2nd February 1971.

Karavasta Lagoon is one of registered wetland of Ramsar Convention. The project organized the World Wetlands Day event to promote the Convention's objectives of "conservation (and restoration)" and "wise use" of wetlands, as well as "exchange and learning".

As an opportunity to share the objectives of the Convention with the local community in order to think about the conservation and wise use of the lagoon, students from primary and secondary schools located in the Divjake Karavasta National Park were invited to participate in a discussion to highlight the benefits and value of wetlands, and to observe wild birds in the lagoon.
