<Fiji> Mid-term Survey

Photo

The mid-term survey was conducted between May and June 2012 in Fiji in order to find out the current running situation of competency assessment, supervision and coaching (S&C), and in-service training programs. The team member has checked the progress of the project activities by comparing the results of the survey with those from the result of the baseline survey in 2010. The survey was subcontracted to the School of Public Health, Fiji National University. The data were collected through the questionnaire survey and the interviews towards community health nurses and nursing supervisors in all four divisions, counterparts in the Ministry of Health and the divisional health offices.

The competency assessment for the community health nurses has become a common practice and performed in wider area than before. Also, it has been frequently assessed by both community health nurses themselves and their supervisors. The percentage of the nurses who have analyzed the results of the assessment and utilized it to their daily activities also shows a great progress statistically. On the other hand, S&C activities have not been implemented on a regular basis in some sub-divisions because of the lack of the financial resources. There were also challenges for the project such as the necessity of strengthening the competency of each supervisors or revising the forms which used by them.

The results of the survey were shared with counterparts as the references to discuss the plans of the project activities for the future.
