In the country of Tonga, the second meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) was held on the 21st of November, 2011 in Nuku ‘alofa. Stakeholders of the project such as representatives from the Embassy of Japan and JICA Tonga office, Director of Health, Principal planning officer, Chief Nursing Officer from Ministry of Health (MOH), principal of nursing school, and Chief medical officers of each island-district attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the Director of Health, Dr. Siale ‘Akauola. The participants presented progress of project activities, achievement of project objectives, results of the baseline survey, and annual work plan for next year. At the end of the meeting, the annual work plan presented for 2012-2013 was approved by the committee. In order to implement the activities as planned, the MOH is expected to start securing the budget in the near future.

The meeting was followed by a press conference. The conference was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga, Director of Health, Chief Nursing Officer, principal of nursing school, and chief advisor of the project.
