<Tonga> Mid-term Survey

Photo

The mid-term survey was implemented in Tonga from May to August 2012. The purpose of the survey is to obtain updated data and information of the target groups to compare with the baseline data. The target areas of the survey are Tongatapu, Vava'u and Ha'apai Island Districts. In total 45 nurses and 14 nursing supervisors participated in the questionnaires survey and interviews.

According to the survey results, majority of the quantitative data such as simple participation rate of the Competency Assessment, Supervision and In-Service Training (IST) were already high in the baseline survey. It was therefore recommended for the project to focus on improving the quality of each activity rather than quantitative improvement. In this regard, nurses' overall level of understanding on CS assessment has been improved compared to the baseline survey. Supervisory visits have been better organized using a formal procedure. With regard to the IST, the close communications between the nurses and the supervisors has been recognized. On the other hand, there is a remarkable quantitative improvement in Coaching because the concept was newly introduced to Tonga by the project. The results were compiled in "Report on preparatory internal study for mid-term review (August, 2012)" with other important data collected by the project and submitted in August in order to provide information for the mid-term review to be conducted by Mid-Term Review Mission.
