10-Year Strategy for Governance Improvement of City Corporations Launched by Local Government Division with support from C4C/JICA

Local Government Division (LGD) has launched a Strategy for Governance Improvement of City Corporations 2020 - 2030 during a Joint Coordination Meeting held on 2 September 2020. The meeting was organized via Zoom connecting Bangladesh and Japan to review the progress of JICA-assisted Project for Capacity Development of City Corporations (also known as "C4C" for "Capacity for Cities"). The Strategy is an outcome of deliberations by LGD and City Corporation officials with support from JICA C4C experts during the last three years of the project implementation. The purpose of the Strategy is to set out common directions and targets for all City Corporations for improving governance with consistency and continuity through a total of 12 components for four pillars: (i) legal instruments, (ii) organizational development, (iii) public financial management and (iv) human resource development.

Officials from ministries and departments who took part in the meeting appreciated the document, saying that it is a milestone achievement which will help addressing governance issues faced by all City Corporations. LGD will soon organize an implementation arrangement at both government and CC levels. The government and development partners are expected to join hands in supporting the coherent implementation of the Strategy.
