Monthly Report in May 2017

15th May 2017: The Commencement Meeting of the Project took place in Thimphu city, Bhutan. The objectives of this meeting, which was the first official meeting since the Project's beginning in April 2017, was to confirm the annual working plan in 2017, exchange scientific presentations among the Project members, and discuss managemental issues and its solutions. Bhutanese participants included leaders or researchers from governmental departments engaging with traditional buildings, seismic guidelines and earthquake monitoring. From Japanese side, experts on masonry structure, seismic engineering and seismology took part in the meeting.

Chief representative of JICA Bhutan, in his closing remarks, put an emphasis on the importance of long-term engagement, strong leaderships and an active dissemination of the Project's knowledge to global community by the Project's stakeholder in order to institutionalize the Project's findings as well as contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

After the meeting on the 17th of May, a mission team from JICA headquarters and a leader of Bhutanese member made the Minutes of Meeting to agree on the decisions the meeting made and action points to solve several issues.
