Monthly Report for May 2020

Floor band retrofitting for rammed earth buildings

From May 2020, Project is on going the work, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, is focused on the development of a simple seismic retrofitting method with minimum interventions to the buildings' facade. This retrofitting method will be an alternative to the already proposed mesh-wrap retrofitting. The technique uses torsion wires that are wrapped around the building at the floor levels to act as floor bands. This will help to strengthen the walls and will control the corner cracks in the building. It has an advantage of reducing the influence/change on the facade of the building, comparing to the mesh-warp method. The method is expected to improve seismic performance while maintaining the appearance of traditional buildings.
