Monthly Report for October to December 2020

Development of Virtual Reality (new version) for disaster mitigation education

From October to December 2020, Mr. Ken Sonobe, a graduate student of Nagoya City University (NCU) Nakagawa Laboratory, took part in an off-campus practical project (internship system by the graduate school), was accepted by the Department of Disaster Mitigation (DDM) in Bhutan. He got lectures remotely from Mr. Sonam who is the project manager and counterpart of our project. Under his guidance, Mr. Sonobe has developed a new version of Virtual Reality (VR) for disaster mitigation education for SATREPS. This new version of VR is based on the experience of the full-scale experimental site set up at the Department of Culture in Bhutan (DOC) and make people have a unique experience that is directly linked to the research results of the SATREPS project. It is expected that it will be useful for spreading and understanding disaster mitigation education by using it together with the existing VR teaching materials.
