Monthly Report for January 2022

Department of Geology and Mines, the Ministry of Economy Affairs is expanding intensity meters accrosing the country (Easten area)

Department of Geology and Mines (DGM), Ministry of Economy Affair has carried out a caravan to install seismic intensity meters since November last year, and completed the installation in 46 gewogs (sub-districts) in four eastern Dzongkhags (districts). The contents are 8 gewogs in Lhuntse Dzong., 17 gewogs in Mongar Dzong., 8 gewogs in Trashi-yangtse Dzong., and 13 gewogs in Trashigang Dzong. In Trashigang Dzongkhag, the team could not install in two gewogs -Merak and Sakteng-due to its designation as COVID red zone. The tour lasted for more than two months, making it a long tour for DGM members. Seismic intensity data is now available from 147 stations total (progress rate 72%), including the observation points where had been installed in the past. They are planning to establish the remaining southern dzongkhas, considering the influence of the COVID-19.
