The 5th Cambodia-Japan Waterworks Seminar

The 5th Cambodia-Japan Waterworks Seminar co-organized by Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME), Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held on December 13, 2012 in Phnom Penh.

Mr. Tan Sokchea, Director of Department of Potable Water Supply, MIME (who is also the Project Director) reported "the Cambodia Water Sector Policy and Future Development Plan" in the seminar.

Mr. Takayuki Kawasaki, Chief Advisor of the Project also participated in the seminar as a panelist. He presented the outline of "the Project on Capacity Building for Urban Water Supply System in Cambodia Phase 3" and announced the launch of the Project.

The following main items ware confirmed in the seminar: (1) it is important for the Government and water utilities to work on raising people's awareness of the improvement of public health for further development of water service, and (2) Roles of both managers who take care of finance and engineers who take care of safety of water are essential for sound management of water utilities.
