Capacity Building Training for Phnom Ta Kong Community Forestry

The project is now accelerating its support for the Phnom Ta Kong Community Forestry (CF) in Stung Treng Province based on the plan of pilot activities, which was formulated through the discussions with the CF members, to enhance their capacity for implementing the sustainable forest management. As a part of the efforts, the project organized a 4-day training in August 2022 to strengthen the capacity of the Phnom Ta Kong CF Management Committee, as well as the forest patrol team members, for the effective management of the community forest. This training was conducted in cooperation with RECOFTC under the support from the PaFF3 (Partnership for Forestry and Fisheries Community in Cambodia Phase 3).

The training took place in Chrob pagoda adjacent to the Phnom Ta Kong CF. A total of 26 CF members participated in this training including some invited representatives from two other CFs in the province to take a good opportunity for capacity building. The trainers from Stung Treng Forestry Administration Cantonment (FAC) and RECOFTC gave training classes focusing on writing of various reports, institutional strengthening and conflict management. The training adopted participatory approach, in which the participants freely exchanged their opinions between each others and between participants and the trainers.

At the end of the training, the participants gave their feedback through the questionnaire to give their feedback. The content of the training lessons, the trainers, the overall arrangement and the participants' level of understanding in each day were set to be rated. Each element received satisfactory ratings from the trainees. The responses of the participants in this post-training survey will be utilized to better the next trainings and produce a better outcome.

This training expected the CF members to improve their CF management skills as well as to implement the CF management plan more effectively.
