Implementation of Ideathon for Siem Reap Smart City

An Ideathon in collaboration with universities and academic institutions in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap was held on November 22nd.

Participants of the Ideathon are; 2 official from Siem Reap Provincial Administrative, 2 officials from Siem Reap City Hall, 1 professor, 2 students from University of Southeast Asia (Siem Reap),1 professor, 3 students from Go global School (Siem Reap), 1 professor, 2 students from National University of Management (Phnom Penh) and 1 professor, 2 students from Institute of Technology of Cambodia (Phnom Penh).

At the Ideathon, the Siem Reap Smart City Roadmap and each academic institution's smart city initiatives were introduced. At the presence of the members above group discussions were held.

In the group discussion, ideas for making Siem Reap an attractive city by using concept of smart city for citizens and tourists were discussed. The result of the Ideathon was also presented to the project's technical working group the following day.

At the Ideathon, the following specific ideas were presented:

  1. Smart Tourism: Providing subscriptions of digital travel guidebooks to assist travelers.
  2. Smart Waste Management: Waste collection schedule and fee collection management app
  3. Smart City Management: Integration of existing services, provision of public transportation

In the Ideathon, the Project explained the importance of areas such as smart tourism, waste, transportation and urban management as indicated in the smart city roadmap, with each group presenting ideas along priority sectors. In addition, there are professors who are familiar with the development of ICT infrastructure environment and expressed their intention to cooperate with the the provincial administration's smart city initiative.
