The Project expert (Waste Collection and Transportation Improvement)made his visit to Phnom Penh from May 10 to 13, 2023, discussing with the Cambodian waste management authorities and stakeholders on solid waste management issues across Cambodia and necessary actions.
The Project expert also observed waste collection operation in the center of Phnom Penh Municipality to draw lessons to provide feedbacks to the ongoing pilot project on waste collection and transportation in Siem Reap Province, currently underway in cooperation with the Siem Reap counterpart organizations and a private waste operator. The visit to Phnom Penh was a part of the pilot project activities.
The meetings were organized with the Ministry of Environment, Cambodia (MoE), Phnom Penh Capital Administration, and development partners respectively. In the discussions, active discussions were held on the status of waste management in Phnom Penh and the whole country and the application of the GPS waste collection vehicle monitoring platform and its future application plan. The participants actively exchanged their views on the status of waste management and issues to be resolved as well as possible collaborations near in the future.
In the discussion with the Ministry of Environment, Mr. Koki Takano, the Project expert, introduced the progress of the pilot project in Siem Reap Province and discussed how to effectively utilize the GPS monitoring platform.
The project is expected to provide feedback on the results of the discussions and the site observation in Phnom Penh to the Siem Reap counterparts to support them in improving their waste management capacity.
