Disaster prevention awareness program was conducted in the Old Market area using a projector (Smart City Project assisted other JICA projects)

The Old Market area of Siem Reap City is the center of tourism with a high concentration of stores selling souvenirs and food, and is a valuable historical district that retains its old-fashioned landscape. On the other hand, fires are an urgent issue, as 12 large-scale fires have occurred from 2012 to the present.

Therefore, JICA has been implementing a grassroots project, "Disaster Prevention Community Development Project in the Old Market and Surrounding Area, Siem Reap, Kingdom of Cambodia," from 2021 to 2023, with the aim of supporting the continuation of self-reliant fire disaster prevention and self-governance activities.

This smart city project utilized a projector loaned by Epson to display a video in support of the disaster prevention project. (Reference: Epson cooperates with the Project)

The video was intended to raise public awareness of disaster preparedness by showing a training session on firefighting in Old Market, which was conducted by the disaster prevention project.

Utilizing an ICT product (portable projector with embedded speaker ) smartly allowed us to effectively raise awareness in the most impactful locations. This philosophy links to the vision of Siem Reap smart city.

The provincial administration, police and the Old Market Association worked with us on the day of the event to set up and manage the projector. Siem Reap aims to continue to be a safe and secure city.
