A Technical Working Group Meeting (TWG) was organized at the Siem Reap Provincial Administration office on May 25,2023 to report the semi-final results of the pilot project on waste collection and transportation in Siem Reap City. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor of the Siem Reap Provincial Administration (SRPA) and the Director of Department of Investment and Planning, representatives from the Department of Environment(DoE), Siem Reap City Hall as well as an officer from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) project office in Siem Reap Province.

During the TWG meeting, Mr. Koki Takano, a project expert(Waste Collection and Transportation Improvement) presented the interim results of the waste collection and transportation survey, as well as demonstrated the utilization of GPS data. The TWG members also discussed the future direction of waste management improvements in Siem Reap Province.

Following the pilot project report, SRPA raised a few comments on possible regarding the benefits for the government side, considerations, and necessary costs of conducting surveys independently, as well as the importance of continuous survey implementation.
In responding to the comments, Mr. Takano highlighted the effectiveness of waste vehicle tracking surveys (Time and Moton Surveys) and the utilization of GPS data in obtaining quantitative data and as a tool to strengthen government capacity for proper management and supervision of private waste service providers.

The ongoing waste collection and transportation improvement pilot project aims to enhance the waste management capacity of the Siem Reap counterpart organizations. It is expected that the survey conducted during this pilot project will contribute to a better understanding of the status of waste collection and transportation and facilitate further discussions for problem-solving.
