From May 21 to 31, 2023, the training program (Knowledge Co-Creation Program: Country Focus) on Smart City Implementation in Siem Reap was conducted in Japan. 12 officials from the central government and Siem Reap Provincial Administration, including the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Interior and the Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, participated in this training course.

In addition to the introduction of smart city initiatives in Japan and abroad by the Cabinet Office and JICA, the participants observed smart city initiatives in Takamatsu City and Kakogawa City, etc., as well as public-private partnership smart city initiatives in the Kashiwa-no-ha and Daimaru-Yu districts. At each site, lecturers from the public, the private, and the academic sectors shared their experiences in promoting smart cities to solve urban issues, and lecturers and trainees engaged in a lively exchange of opinions.

The trainees gained an understanding of Japan's smart city initiatives and their lessons learned, and based on this understanding, they organized necessary actions to be taken by each trainee individually or by their organizations. The trainees plan to continue to promote smart cities in Siem Reap to solve urban issues by making use of the experience gained from the training.
