The JICA Smart City Project and the GIZ (Deutshe Geselleschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) Projects (Improved Service Delivery for Citizens in Cambodia (ISD) and ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE)) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15th August 2023 at the GIZ project office, Sim Reap Provincial Administration Hall. The MoU was signed between the three projects in which waste management activities are being conducted, promoting cooperation and synergy to support improving solid waste management in Siem Reap province.

The signing ceremony was attended by the JICA Project Chief Advisor, the ISD Project Country Manager, and representatives from both agencies.

At the signing ceremony, the JICA Project Chief Advisor expressed that "JICA has a long history of cooperation with GIZ across the globe and wish that this MoU will accelerate the cooperation and synergy between the ongoing projects. The ISD Project Country Manager of GIZ welcomed his comment while wishing for close cooperation in Siem Reap province.

The MoU will provide an opportunity for collaboration between the JICA and GIZ projects, involving both government and private stakeholders in Siem Reap Province towards integrated and sustainable waste management in the province.
