The seminar on the Code of Civil Procedure for the judges of the Supreme Court and the Appeal Court

From 24 to 26 December 2009, the seminar on the Code of Civil Procedure for the judges and public prosecutors in the Supreme Court and the Appeal Court was held. This seminar was prepared upon the strong initiative of Cambodian side since the Code of Civil Procedure had been applied for more than two years and the cases to which the Civil Code of Procedure was applied have increased in the Supreme Court and the Appeal Court.

In the seminar, Prof. Takeshita Morio (Chancellor of Surugadai University, special advisor to Ministry of Justice of Japan), Prof. Miki Koichi (professor of Keio University), Prof. Matsushita Junichi (professor of University of Tokyo), and Prof. Yamamoto Kazuhiko (professor of Hitotsubashi University), who are the members of the Japanese supporting group on the Code of Civil Procedure of Cambodia, made lectures on the proceedings in Appellate and Supreme review for three days. From Cambodian side, judges and public prosecutors from the Supreme Court and the Appeal Court and presidents of the court of the first instance as well as officials from the Ministry of Justice, approximately in total 90 people, participated in the seminar and there were active discussions during the questions and answer time. The opening and closing ceremonies were broadcasted by the media such as televisions.

The result of the seminar will be complied into books as a reference material for the procedures in the Appellate and Supreme review. The books are going to be distributed to judges, prosecutors and court clerks in each court.
