Seminars on Law on Procedure of Litigation relating to Personal Status and Law on Non-litigation Procedure

Ministry of Justice of Cambodia held a seminar on March 21 and 22, 2011, in Phnom Penh, for dissemination of Law on Litigation of Personal Status promulgated in June 2010 and Law on Non-litigation Procedure promulgated in July 2010. Approximately 90 legal professionals such as judges and lawyers from each province attended the seminar.

Law on Procedure of Litigation relating to Personal Status was promulgated in June 2010 and regulates the procedure related to marriage, parents and children, etc. Law on Non-litigation Procedure was promulgated in July 2010 and regulates the procedure related to commencement of general guardianship, declaration of disappearance and so on. These two laws are closely related to the Civil Code and they will be effective at the same time when the Civil Code will come into force in the end of this year. The participants received books of these two laws. MOJ officials made explanations on the scope of these laws, and relations to the Civil Code and the Code of Civil Procedure, as showing charts and tables.

Judges, the majority of the participants, eagerly asked many questions on the actual proceedings and practical issues which come from their own daily work during the Q&A session after the explanation. The seminar was fruitful and helpful for the participant to deepen the understanding of Law on Procedure of Litigation relating to Personal Status and Law on Non-litigation Procedure.
