The second Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held in June 2014. The participants of the meeting were the president of JCC, who is Secretary General of Ministry of Health, officers of Maternal and Child Health Department, who are counterparts of the project, representatives of other related departments, Embassy of Japan in Djibouti, JICA Djibouti Office as well as Development Partners. A total of 15 people participated in the meeting. During the JCC meeting, the participants shared the progress of activities for one year since the launch of the project, and considered the plan of activities for the rest of project duration. Additionally, they revised the Project Design Matrix (PDM) on the basis of information obtained from the activities.

The project team reported that the activities to enhance midwives' capacity of Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) have been conducted as almost planned, and the project was highly evaluated for its progress in the meeting. Some participants asked questions and commented about cooperation with the basic midwifery education institute and other development partners to sustain project outcomes as well as the provision plan of the necessary equipment for health facilities. In addition, the participants actively discussed not only the project activities but also the entire maternal and child health in Djibouti, such as horizontal review of activities implemented by development partners in health field and necessity of improving communication skills of midwives.

The meeting became a valuable opportunity to recognize the necessity to promote the rest of activities in consideration of establishment in-service training and the follow-up system and cooperation with other organizations.
