[No. 7] CAAKUB Farmers' Association has started to purchase rice from farmers in Maliana.

Centre Agriculture of Kuda- Ulun Bobonaro (CAAKUB) has recently started to purchase rice from farmers in Maliana with the technical support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) and the Project.

On 27th April 2017, the CAAKUB purchased first paddy rice from farmers in Raifun and Ritabou villages. Farmers who sold their paddy rice to the CAAKUB were very delighted because they received the cash on hand, while they did not have to bear with the transport and other associated costs.

One farmer from Raifun village was eager to increase yield after selling his 938 kg paddy rice (IR 64 Variety) to the CHAAKUB. He will use the money that he earned to sustain his family and send his children to school. Last year he cultivated only 2ha, but this year he is convinced to cultivate 2 more hectares as long as there are buyers. With the regular flow of water from Maliana irrigation I, he is keen to cultivate his rice field two times a year or even more.

Another farmer from Ritabou village also sold his paddy rice of 445kg to the CHAAKUB. He will use the money to buy corrugated roofs for his own house since at the moment he is staying together with his parents in law.

Thus, the CHAAKUB will continue to purchase rice from farmers in Maliana, it will also start to sell the rice in the MAF in the middle of May, 2017.
