The project delivered 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain) /KAIZEN (Participatory Problem Solving Process) training on Rice Stockpile Warehouses Management from11th to 13th February 2019. The total number of the participants reached around 50 and they were mainly warehouse managers and workers from the National Logistic Center (NLC), the CAAKUB Farmers Association, ACELDA private company, National Director of Agro-Commerce of Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), the School Feeding Program of Ministry of Education, etc. This three-day training was aimed to teach principles of the 5S/KAIZEN and warehouse management to the participants.

Mr. Hirokazu Nagaoka, a short-term expert on the rice stockpiling management, said that 5S/KAIZEN system has been applied in warehouses management all over the world. When it is properly implemented, warehouse management including control of shipment can become easier and more effective, and this can lead to maintain the quality of goods kept in warehouses. He hopes that the participants understand important ideas of 5S /KAIZEN though the training and apply learned knowledge and skills to their daily warehouse management duties.

Mr. Tarcisio Lopes (38), the Maliana warehouse manager of the NLC, said that 5S/KAIZEN system is a very primary and easy method to follow, for example, the system of "First-In, First-Out" is a very effective way to carry out older rice first. He also gave a comment that he will apply learned skills in his warehouse for ensuring the quality of the goods.

Following the training, the Project will continue to monitor implemented activities of 5S/KAIZEN in the NLC's warehouses in Dili (Bebora and Tibar) and Maliana, and will take necessary follow up actions depend on the conditions in each warehouse.
