Câncio Monteiro, Assistant Lecturer in Electric/Electronic Engineering Department

Receipient University in Japan: Gifu University

Period of the training: February 16th to March 16th 2008

Contents of the training : Telecommunication System (Radio frequency circuit, linux server installatioon, field trip)

Training Experience in Japan

I think that my last training was very important for myself, in order to build and increase my knowledge in the field of electronics engineering. During my staying in Gifu Unversity with Prof. Hiroki Yoshida and Prof. Takahashi and other Tutors, I studied the basic theories of continous waves of radio frequency communication. I learnt how to construct SST CW Transceiver. I analized and observed the transmitting and receiving signal wave by using digital oscilloscope. Apart from radio frenquency communication, I got knowledge about open source operating system. I used Fedora 8 (Linux) for server installation, the configuration of server itself and wireless system for internet connectiion. I felt satisfied with the training method that was quite constructive for me. I learnt how to think practically, study independently, and solve problems. With this training opportunity, I could visit historic places such as Nagoya science museum. In the museum, I observed how the life in Japan in the past and the development process that was reached present prosperity of Japan. For the period of training, I visited several companies. I observed working system in Japan, responsabilty and maintenance system as well as punctuanlity everywhere. I was very amazed by the Japanese culture that made Japanese people respect each other.

Now, I am working in Electrical and Electronic engineering Department as teaching staff. I spend a lot of time in electronic laboratory to teach electronic practice for students. By this practical activities, I could share my experience, knowledge and related theories that I obtained in Japan with my students in order to educate them. I hope they will be responsable engineers in the future.I offer my significant contribution to the Faculty of Engineering to change the condition of the faciluty enviroment, and I have organized and participated the various academic activities in engineering field with the intention to enhance my knowledge and at the same time for the progress of the Faculty of Engineering, UNTL.

Opinion about CADETES project

According to my opinion, JICA project in the engineering faculty of UNTL is very beneficial and must be continued. This project is really helpful for the Faculty of Engineering to develop the lecturer's capacity through the practical activity. All the staff and students are trying to utilize equipment which is provided by JICA. With the existence of this cooperation, our mentality is changed to be responsable person and it cultivated the sense of belonging of all equipment in the Faculty. This project also organised various academic activities to encourage and motivate the lecturers to start their own research activities. I beleave that this technical cooperation will develop the quality of education especially in the field of science and technology in Timor-Leste. I think we still need this cooperation for several years, we still hope Japanese technical assistance to obtain more academic knowledge. Finally, my conclusion is that, We need to learn more from “CADETES Project” with Japanese people to change our mind, our university and to change our beloved country. My sincere thanks to Prof. Hiroki Yoshida, Prof. Takahashi, my Tutor Niwa, Sawada, Kuu and others who taught me during my training in Gifu Unversity, Japan.

Junior Raimundo da Cruz, Assistant lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Department

Recipient University in Japan: Nagaoka University of Technology

Period of the training: 17th January to 1st March 2009

Content of the training:

  1. Machine tools area
    • - Grinding Machine
    • - Milling Machine
    • - Drilling
    • - NC milling
  2. Dynamics area
    • - Vibration
    • - Torsion

Training experience in Japan

In my training in Japan, there were many things that I obtained during one and half months. In the first three weeks, I learnt a lot about machine tool workshop (KOSAKU CENTER). With the assistance and good teaching method from Prof. Hoshino and Prof. Tanabe, I could obtain much knowledge and information there. I learnt how to operate grinding machine, to balance for the grinding stone, to analyze the condition of grinding stone and to make good dressing. In addition, I also learnt how to operate milling machine, to use drilling machine, and to make NC programming.

Opinion about CADETES project

In my opinion, this CADETES project is successful. The output of the CADETES project is capacity building of the teaching staff. With the CADETES project, JICA helps Faculty of engineering of UNTL to develop the capacity of teaching staff in three departments (Mechanical Engineering department, Civil engineering department and Electric/Electro Engineering department). The Faculty of Engineering got many machineries and tools from JICA. With these supported equipment, the faculty of engineering can improve the quality of education in the future. ARIGATO GOZAIMASHITA.

Valerio de Sousa Gama, Assistant Lecturer in mechanical Engineering Department

Recipient University in Japan: Nagaoka University of technology

Period of the training: 14th January to 28th February 2008

Contents of the training: machine tools

  1. lathe machine
  2. milling machine
  3. grinding machine
  4. drilling machine
  5. CNC

Training experience in Japan.

I obtained a lot of experience in machine tool area. I felt the method of the Professor was very satisfied. I made use of this opportunity to improve my skills and knowledge.

The facilities in laboratory were perfect, and then I didn’t have any problem to make products.

During my training in Japan, I had only one problem to understand CNC programming due to lack of basic knowledge and practical skill. I have never touched the machine in Timor-Leste, but the training motivated me to brush up my knowledge even after I came back to my country.

I visited four Companies in order to observe manufacturing process and working system in the factory.

The owner of the company explained to us about the background of the company. He explained to us that “nothing is easy to achieve especially at the beginning of the course. But if you try harder, you could achieve the purpose.”

Opinion about CADETES project

In my opinion, JICA project in the Faculty of Engineering is very beneficial and I hope this technical cooperation could extend. Because we still need your support to develop education system in Timor-Leste. We would like to have more training from professors in Japan who have advanced skills and technology. Finally I would like to send my best regards and thanks to all the Professors who had taught me while I was in Japan. Arigato gozaimashita!!!
