Official resumption of CADETES project

In Aug 2007, JICA officially restarted its project to build up the capacity of teaching staff in the faculty of engineering, UNTL. It was very unfortunate for both JICA and Timor-Leste to experience the Crisis in April 2006. Although the project had been suspended for almost a year after the crisis, JICA has never changed its attitude to support the faculty.

In order to observe the current situation of the faculty, JICA mission came to Timor Leste on 13th Aug (until 25th Aug). As JICA restarted the project, UNTL side and JICA side hold a series of meetings. On 20th Aug 2007, general meeting was held at Hera Campus to discuss about the future plan of the project. Both sides came to conclusion that the project should be extended to achieve the goals. JICA continues to support the faculty until 31st March 2010.

On 23rd Aug, a ceremony was held at Hera campus with a number of guests such as the minister of Education, the Rector of UNTL, resident representative of JICA. In the ceremony, UNTL and JICA signed on Record of Discussions (R/D) to extend the project. On the same day, handover of the equipment was carried out. JICA provided laboratory equipments for the faculty of engineering to assist practical activities at Hera campus with the total amount of $ 280,000.00. The handover was of a second time to follow the first one donated on 17 April 2007.
