Intensive training by Japanese professors

Four professors were dispatched from Japan in September 2007 to conduct intensive training at Hera Campus. From 10th Sep to 5th Oct. 2 professors from Saitama University and 2 professors from Gifu University were dispatched. It has been said that the motivation of the teaching staff is the key of the project. For this reason, the training was focused on practical activities such as usage of equipment, site visit of electric company and Dili Port, and networking with the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Professors pointed out that the basic knowledge in Mathematics and Physics was quite low, but most of the teaching staff had sufficient practical skills. It was also pointed out that English ability needs to be improved. Professors needed interpreter from English to Tetun, the national language in Timor Leste. Actually, some teaching staff who speaks good English interpreted during the training.

It is important to continue to organize practical activities inside and outside Hera campus to keep their motivation. The project should try to achieve the objectives through a series of practical activities.
