Establishment of academic cooperation with Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS)

(MoU signed in May 2008, fist training start from June 2008)

Four professors came from Institute of Technology in Surabaya (ITS) to Timor Leste from 16th to 27th June by responding a request from the National University of Timor Leste (UNTL). ITS accepted the request from UNTL based on the Memorandum of Understanding sign on 23rd May 2008. The agreement was concluded after a series of discussions in Surabaya in cooperation with CADETES project. The objectives of the cooperation are (1) to improve institutional capacity and quality of human resources of the Faculty of Engineering, (2) to establish strong academic links between the two institutions and (3) to strengthen relationship between Indonesia and Timor Leste through academic exchange.

While the ITS professors stayed in Timor Leste, they organized intensive training courses to the teaching staff of the Faculty of Engineering at Hera Campus. The specializations of the professors were Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical/Electronic Engineering. In addition to the invitation of ITS professors, UNTL sent some of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Engineering to ITS for upgrading their academic degree in the future.

On 17th June, those visiting professors pay a courtesy call on the rector of UNTL with CADETES project advisers. It is expected that this cooperation will contribute not only to the capacity development of the teaching staff but also warm relationship between Indonesia and Timor-Leste in the long run.
