Terminal Evaluation Mission for CADETES Project

As the project is schedule to end at the end of March 2010, terminal evaluation mission visited Timor-Leste on 19th October 2009. The mission members conducted survey until 30th October 2009.

As a result of a series of discussions with Ministry of Education and the National University of Timor-Leste, it is confirmed that the project has achieved certain results such as improving basic knowledge and skills of fundamental engineering subjects, upgrading academic degrees and strengthening management system of the Faculty of Engineering, UNTL. On the other hand, further support is necessary to enhance sustainable development of the Faculty of Engineering. The project continues its effort to overcome the current difficulties in the remaining term of the project until March 2010.

On 30th October, The faculty of engineering and JICA organized a wrap up meeting at Hotel Timor to share the above mentioned progress and challenges for the rest of the project period. The Vice Minister for Education and the Rector of UNTL as well as the teaching staff of the Faculty of Engineering conducted lively discussions to obtain maximum outcomes of the project, and formalized the agreement in the form of Minutes of Meeting. Also, a follow up letter was submitted to the Ministry of Education to identify the current challenges and actions to be taken. The letter emphasized the importance of self-sustaining development of the Faculty of Engineering and recommended the actions such as introduction of research oriented education, adoption of career development system for the teaching staff, enhancement of public relations, establishment of Faculty Development Committee and enhancement of administrative function. The project supports the Faculty of Engineering to implements these recommendations.
