The National Service for Risk and Emergency Management (SNGRE), with the support of the "Project for the Construction of Safe and Resilient Cities against Earthquakes and Tsunami Disasters" of JICA project, conducted a "Socialization Workshop of the Handbook for the Preparation of Tsunami Evacuation Plan" and in which 95 people from the risk management units of 26 municipalities of 5 provinces in the coastal areas of Ecuador participated.
The workshop was held in the provinces of Esmeraldas (March 15 and 16, 2021), Manabí (March 22 and 23, 2021), El Oro (March 31 and April 1, 2021) and Santa Elena / Guayas (June 10 and 11, 2021) and had the participation of officials from the risk management unit of each municipality. These workshops were held as a culmination of the project's Output 1 activities: "Based on the tsunami warning issued through the Tsunami Warning Technical Protocol, the pilot municipalities provide timely assistance to quickly evacuate the communities." with the following purpose:
The objective of this Project is that both SNGRE and the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MIDUVI) have a technical support system, so that municipal governments can reduce the damage caused by the occurrence of earthquakes and tsunami in Ecuador and ; thus contribute to one of the global objectives of the "Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030", which seeks to "Substantially increase the number of countries where disaster risk reduction strategies are formulated at the national and local levels. by 2020 ".
SNGRE, with the support of experts from JICA and the seven pilot municipalities of the project, will continue to work towards the completion of the project and the establishment of tsunami evacuation plans in all coastal municipalities as a post-project initiative.
