The "Action Plan Workshop" was held.

The Action Plan Workshop was held on September 8, 2021 in virtual mode, with the attendance of 62 participants, among which were the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management (SNGRE), the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MIDUVI), the pilot municipalities of the project, JICA Ecuador office and Japanese experts of the project.

The project will end on September 30, after 4 years and 3 months of activities. The support provided to the seven pilot cities has not only improved the technical aspects of the tsunami evacuation planning program and risk reduction agenda of SNGRE, and building regulation management of MIDUVI, but has also strengthened capacity of both institutions to support the municipalities.

In addition, at the end of the project, we have initiated seminars not only for the pilot municipalities, but also for other municipalities throughout the country, thus initiating the nationwide development of disaster-resistant cities.

The Japanese experts' travels, which had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed at the end of August, and the Japanese experts have been visiting each pilot municipality since the end of August to support the continuation of activities after the project completion and formulation of action plans to achieve higher goals.

In this workshop, SNGRE, MIDUVI and the seven pilot municipalities presented their action plans for the three years after the end of the project (from October 2021 to September 2024).

SNGRE and MIDUVI have plans that focus on promoting the Construction of Safe and Resilient Cities against Disasters at national level, supporting pilot municipalities and secondary pilots, which also have action plans to update their tsunami evacuation plans and risk reduction agenda developed during the project period, as well as periodic tsunami evacuation drills and awareness activities for its inhabitants.

In addition to the support of SNGRE and MIDUVI to the municipalities, some pilot municipalities have begun to support their neighboring cities, which confirms the constant progress of the initiative at national level. We hope that these activities will continue by each institution, even once the project is finished and that the "Construction of Safe and Resilient Cities against Disasters" is promoted in municipalities throughout the country.
