Project News

2013-08-23

Project activities have been continued under tight situations.

Due to political instability which had started from demonstrations nationwide on June 30, 2013, the JICA experts had been taking safe actions such as working at home by the instruction from the JICA Egypt Office. However, since the local security situations had not been improved, the experts were temporarily evacuated to Japan from Cairo on August 22, 2013.

On the other hand, even under such difficult situations, twelve of counterpart personnel arrived to Japan as schedule to participate in the training course "Participatory Water Management in Japan." It is hoped that they will get a lot of knowledge in the training for about two weeks.

Even after coming back to Japan, the experts have been doing what they can do for the project; getting latest information on the project and proposing some project activities to counterparts by email in cooperation with the JICA Egypt Office. However, since it is difficult for all of the experts to work effectively as a member of the project under the current situations, we hope to go back to Egypt as soon as possible. We sincerely wish that the security situations will be soonest restored as before so that we can restart the project activities in the pilot sites.
