Based on the needs survey which had been implemented from February to June, 2013, the Project for Strengthening Water Management Transfer (SWMT Project) started preparing for training activities . Preparations included planning the training activities by a short-term expert (June to July, 2013) and setting-up a Task Force to prepare for the first TOT (December, 2013). On February 10, 2014, the SWMT Project started implementing the first TOT for senior staff of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI). They included staff of the Central Department of Irrigation Advisory Service (CDIAS), the Training Sector for Water Resources and Irrigation (TSWRI) and General Directorate of Irrigation Advisory Service (GDIAS). The recipients of this training will be trainers for the district staff in charge of the pilot sites.

Until the end of February, 2014, training was implemented on: Water Delivery and Distribution (February 10), Matching between Water Requirements & Cropping Pattern (February 13) and Land Improvement & On-farm Works (February 19). It was held by trainers from the related departments of the MWRI and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR). Although most trainees including staff of the GDIAS were from areas remote to Cairo, they were actively participating in the training process.

After each training session, trainees were requested to take a short exam and fill in an evaluation sheet so that the project can check their understanding of the training contents and thereby improve them.

As most of the trainees are busy senior staff in management level of each counterpart organization of the MWRI, it is not easy to coordinate a training schedule for them. However, we will continuously implement the first TOT as scheduled to establish a practical training system.
