Preparation for the First Staff Training has been started.

Soon after the first Training of Trainers (TOT), the Project for Strengthening Water Management Transfer (SWMT Project) has started to prepare for the first Staff Training (ST). At first, an internal meeting was held with staff of the Central Department of Irrigation Advisory Service (CDIAS) of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) to evaluate the first TOT, and then, another meeting was organized to discuss how to prepare for the first ST with participants of the first TOT from the CDIAS, the Training Sector for Water Resources and Irrigation (TSWRI) and the General Directorate of Irrigation Advisory Service (GDIAS) in charge of each pilot site. In that meeting, there were comments by several participants such as "It is necessary to develop the training plan and the new training materials for the first ST, by taking into full consideration of technical levels of the trainees including members of Water Users' Organizations as the final target." and "Not only lectures but also other training methods like audiovisual materials (video), a report writing exercise and a field trip can be effectively introduced in the training."

In the general meetings with the same participants mentioned above on June 2 and 10, the project experts gave presentations on the training concepts and development of the training syllabus. Then the participants developed a training syllabus for every training topic of the first ST as their group work, referring to a sample training syllabus developed by the project expert.

Based on the training syllabuses made by the participants, the SWMT Project finalized the training syllabuses for all the training topics in the first ST and selected the trainers mainly from the trainees of the first TOT. At present, training materials are being developed by each trainer. We will make our full efforts to prepare for the first ST so that it can be successfully implemented on time.
