Subject: Establishment of the local wetland management committees of Olomega and El Jocotal

After a series of the preparatory meetings for the establishment of the local wetland management committees of Olomega and El Jocotal, the board members of the committees were elected, and an official oath ceremony for the committees was held by the project team on 27th March 2017 in the presence of Minister of the Environment and the representatives of JICA El Salvador.

Following the ministerial agreement (Acuerdo No.361) on establishment of the local committees approved in September 2016, each of the local committees is composed of various stakeholders such as the municipal government, social group leaders and the representatives of the related private sectors. Each committee has the board members of the president, vice president, secretary, and coordinators of the commissions which are organized to work on the specific issues under the committee. The board members are to have bi-monthly regular meetings to implement and monitor the wetland management plan.

The board members finalized the internal regulation, and are expected to start gathering and analyzing information and solicit necessary support to the national wetland committee, and to discuss on the wetland management plan.
