A course was conducted for entomological technicians from seven health districts on August 26 at the Research Center of the University of El Salvador. The course was done in coordination with Salvadoran Red Cross and the University. A total of 17 personnel received training on the methodology of bug dissection (Triatoma dimidiata) to detect infection of the parasite,
Trypanosoma cruzi that causes Chagas disease. More than 80% of the transmission of Chagas disease occurred via contact with vector feces. Learning the proper handling of dissection is very important to protect the health personnel. However, due to the risk of accidental infection in the laboratory when the dissection is performed, PAHO does not recommend dissection.
