The monitoring study has been conducted on Ethio-SHEP Project activities by Dr.Shuto, a consultant from JICA HQ, between 4th and 22nd October, 2019 in project target areas in both Oromia and Amhara regions. The feedback workshop was organized on 22nd October at Addis Ababa to share the result of the monitoring study with the C/Ps from Federal Ministry of Agriculture(MoA), Regional Bureau of Agriculture, Zonal agriculture office and JICA Ethiopia office.

Mr Saso (Project chief advisor) made presentation on the progress of project intervention for last 2.5 year and preliminary result on the impact of the project intervention. The comparative analysis of Baseline/ Endline Survey for the 1st year target farmers indicated that the average scores of farmers' production skills, i.e. General Horticulture (G21) Scores, improved from 8.6 points(Baseline Survey 2017) to 16.5 points(Endline Survey 2019) on average (full score: 21 points). Average net income from horticulture increased by 37%, from ETB8,948 (2017) to ETB12,219 (2019). He also mentioned that result of Ethio-SHEP project 2years intervention showed that SHEP approach is effective in Ethiopian context and will contribute to strengthen the existing extension service to become more "Market-oriented and demand-driven extension service" which is clearly mentioned in MoA's "National Horticulture development and marketing strategy(2017) " and "National agriculture extension strategy of Ethiopia(2017)". Dr.Shuto reported the detail result of qualitative data analysis from direct interview to the target farmers and CPs and proposed recommendations for further improvement of project intervention and revision of PDM for the remaining 2 years.

Next, Mr.Girma (Focal person) from Amhara Bureau of Agriculture explained about their own initiative for further scaling up of SHEP activities in the current target woreda and kebele. In Amhara Region. (After the SHEP South Africa workshop last February 2019, Mr. Yibeltal(Director of irrigation water management and horticulture) who participated from Amhara region and Mr Girma(Focal person)who participated in SHEP training in Japan 2019 started to discuss about how to scale-up SHEP approach in Amhara region within their own regular extension system .

After this, we had a group discussion session on how to promote SHEP approach and how to integrate the approach into regular extension service. It was very good starting point to discuss with stakeholders about how to mainstream SHEP approach in Ethiopian extension system.
