Project Title

The Capacity Development Project for Digital Topographic Mapping (Technical Cooperation)

Project Background

Ethiopia launched a new five-year development plan Growth and Transformation Plan(GTP)in 2010 and it focused on agriculture development, regional development, industrial development as well as infrastructure development.
For effective and efficient development project implementation, accurate and reliable national spatial database is mostly necessary.
However, the Ethiopian Mapping Agency (EMA), sole organization in charge, has analog topographic map which cover 85% of national land.
In this regard, Ethiopian government requested to develop capacity of EMA for provision of accurate and reliable topographic map for the national development.

October 1, 2013-October 31, 2018

Overall Goal

To build an accurate and reliable national spatial database to promote sustainable development of the economic and social infrastructure

Project Purpose

  1. Develop 1/10000 and 1/25000 digit topographic map data for 1140km2 around Mojo and Adama
  2. EMA will reach the level of manage and implement Topo mapping projects by their own, with sufficient skill level and organizational capacity

Outputs

  1. Documents for standardization will be created.
  2. Technology of mapping will be enhanced.
  3. Fundamental digital topo map data will be created
