Small Scale Projects Begin under JICA SDG14 Project (1)

In the 1st training (last Feb.- Mar. 2022), we provided mainly three (3) subjects of training; i) Fisheries Resource Management and Conservation (Coastal and Offshore), ii) Aquaculture (Mud Crab & Tilapia) and iii) Post harvest. In these training, participants made a proposal for their "Small-Scale Projects" to resolve their issues which they are facing, which is supposed to be implemented from this April. According to these proposals, Fisheries Officers in Fiji will conduct their own "Small-Scale Projects" along with the 2nd Capacity Enhancement Training in this Phase 2. The Project Titles from the respective divisions are listed in the table below.

Offshore Establishing economically viable alternatives from offshore Marine Protected Areas
Aquaculture Up-scaling tilapia production through cost effective farming regimes
Economic Planning Improving Fiji's central fisheries information and statistical system for evidence-based decisions and reporting for SDG 14.
Research and Eastern Encourage sustainable fisheries conservation and improve livelihood initiative towards a climate change resilient community
Central Crab fattening for the village of Naisogovau, District of Dravo, Tailevu
Western Maximize economic return/opportunities for LFA's members through sustainable utilization of fisheries resources

In the next article, I would like to introduce some of the Small-Scale Projects, which are particularly well time-managed in terms of submitting proposal and initiative of Fisheries Officers.
