JICA and USP conducted capacity enhancement training for Fijian fisheries stakeholders between December 2022 and February 2023. Although the Ministry of Fisheries (MoF) was the primary target audience, the training also included some community members. The training consisted of five subjects that were taught in the previous year: (i) Fisheries Resource Management and Conservation (Inshore), (ii) Fisheries Resource Management and Conservation (Offshore), (iii) Tilapia Farming, (iv) Mud Crab Fattening, and (v) Post-Harvest and Seafood Processing. Following the Project Cycle Management (PCM) training held in 2021, each division of the MoF is implementing their small-scale projects, as detailed in the table below. During each training session, participants provided updates on the progress of their small-scale projects.

The Phase 1 training was provided to Fisheries Officers and community members from January to February 2022. Subsequently, certain Fisheries Divisions initiated their small-scale projects starting from April 2022. During the Fisheries Resource Management and Conservation (Inshore) training, the Research, Resource Assessment, and Development Division (Research Division) and the Eastern Division revised their project proposals, and the revised proposals were accepted by JICA and USP team members.
