3rd Joint Coodination Committee (JCC) Meeting (JICA/MASAPS-KIS)

The 3rd Joint Coordination Committee was held on 5th March, chaired by Mr. Wilson K. Darkwah, Acting Chief Executive of Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA). The objectives of the meeting were to confirm the achievements made up to now and the planned activities for fiscal year 2019, and approve the revision of Project Design Matrix (PDM).

Firstly, Mr. Hirofumi Hoshi, Chief Representative of JICA Ghana Office emphasized in his opening speech that MASAPS-KIS Project contributed to development agendas such as poverty reduction and food security, and aligned with national flagship ‘One Village One Dam' in Ghana's agricultural sector.

Secondly, presentations were made by leaders of each Output and had a series of discussions among participants.

Then, the meeting agreed to accept the revised Project Design Matrix (PDM) as a logical framework used for planning and evaluation of the Project, reviewing some indicators based on the changes of the surrounding environment and progress of the Project.

Finally, Mr. Wilson K. Darkwah, Chairman of the meeting mentioned in his closing remarks that the Project needed to accelerate activities regarding the establishment of Water Users Associations (WUAs) and capacity building of WUA leaders in the second half of the 5-year Project. He also pointed out the necessity of increasing demonstration-plots under different soil conditions so that the test results can be applied to all irrigation areas for effective dissemination of improved rice cultivation techniques.

He concluded the meeting expressing his gratitude to JICA and GIDA/KIS for their efforts and supports so far.
