Confirmed Contents for the new mathematics textbooks

On 6th March 2017, the Ministry of Education practically completed the revision of learning contents for lower secondary mathematics education based on the present national curriculum. During the work, the contents for the new mathematics textbooks were confirmed. Thus, the development of mathematics textbooks and teacher's guides officially began.

Dr. Kinone, an expert in mathematics education, arrived in Guatemala on 12th March. He firstly worked on distribution of lesson periods for each unit with the Guatemalan project members. Since the lower secondary mathematics education in Guatemala contains more learning contents than that of Japan, the project team firstly prioritized learning contents by grade, and then distributed necessary periods into the contents with technical advice provided by Dr. Kinone. In addition, the team revised its draft of the Function unit., Dr. Kinone provided a workshop on "Factorization" to explain its learning objectives, sequence and teaching process from the first to the third grade, using Japanese mathematics textbooks. At the end of the workshop, the project team presented lesson plans in Factorization by grade. The project team will develop textbooks in the areas of Arithmetic and Algebra, including the unit of Factorization, in April.
