The Third Project Meeting and Restoration Seminar (Report)

I. Summary

  1. The Third Project Meeting Fiscal Year 2012

The Third Project Meeting Fiscal Year 2012 The Third Project Meeting for the year 2012 was held at The Menara Peninsula Hotel in Jakarta on 21st January, 2013. The purpose of the project meeting was that the Ministry of Forestry and the local project stakeholders gathered to report the action plan progress over the past three months, and discuss the future projects action plan for the next three months. We had 30 participants from the Ministry of Forestry, the five national park stakeholders, JICA restoration project experts and staff.

  2. Restoration Seminar Fiscal Year 2012

Following on from the First Restoration Seminar (held last year), the second one was held at The Menara Peninsula Hotel in Jakarta on 22nd January, 2013. The purpose of this seminar was to share the results discussed in terms of technical cooperation, technology and know-how and institutional knowledge for the recovery activities of the seminar participants. We had 50 participants, including The Third Project Meeting members, Japanese Embassy, JICA Indonesia Office, Research institutions, Universities, Companies and NGO's, etc.

  3. Implementation of the excursion

Following The Restoration Seminar, we conducted an excursion to Gunung Ciremei National Park Project Site on 23-24 January 2013. We had 30 participants, including many of the same people from the organizations listed above.

We set out on the charter bus at 5:30 a.m. from Munara Peninsula Hotel on 23rd January (Wed) , and arrived in The Gunung Ciremai National Park Office at 10:00 a.m. After a short break at the office, the National Park Director Mr.Dulhadi gave a brief description of this National Park, and Mr.Darsono as the JICA-RECA National Consultant and Mr. Nuluhadi as Field Manager gave a description of the restoration activities in the Gunung Ciremai National Park. After that, we made our way separately using 6 jeeps that had been borrowed in advance, going to Lanbosir block. While the participants entered the work hut in the field and had lunch, it began to rain heavily. Therefore we could not leave the hut even after lunch. Therefore we could not leave the hut, even after lunch, as the weather had gotten worse at around 12 p.m. Lunch was over and it was subjected to discussion by all participants in the hut for the time being. So we had a discussion with all the participants in the hut for two hours. Finally, we left the hut and went to the local hotel to stay in Kuningan at around 3:00 p.m.

After we had dinner with all the participants, we continued the discussion from 9:00 p.m. until about 11:00 p.m. over a cup of tea in the hotel's restaurant. Almost all participants attended this discussion and we could discuss the operational practices at the project site, the activation of the Working Group, measures used by nearby residents, communication between stakeholders, and code of conduct for the Field Manager, etc. We were able to talk about a variety of things to enable us to proceed with this project activity. This discussion was very fruitful.
