4. Purpose:

Capacity building of Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) or "People Awareness of Fire" for protecting the park areas from forest fires through forest fire control training including no burning land practice, and production of organic fertilizer as well as charcoal briquette.

A. Material and discussion

(1) MPA task and function
Masyarakat Peduli Api or MPA is a volunteer community member group having care and awarness to forest fire controling.MPA is formed from villagersnear from conservation areas or vulnerable village by fire and potentialy widespread to forest. All of MPA must have technical training about forest fires such as how to prevent the forest fires, how to control the forest fires, etc.

The task of MPA are:

• Giving information to unit management or national park staff about forest fire
• Disseminate information about forest fire danger ratings
• Counseling of Forest fires preventing together with national parks staff
• Patrol for preventing of forest fires
• Attending regular meeting to strengthen MPA

(2) Making Briket
In several region in Indonesia, local people already uses charcoal briquette everyday, because of more heat and not need special space.
Charcoal briquette is charcoal made from other materials which added tapioca.
Some of technology to make charcoal briquette are:

1. Making charcoal with modified drum furnace
2. Making charcoal with traditional furnace
3. Making charcoal from wood sawdust with semi-continuous furnace

(3) Making Compost
Organic fertilizer can be made weathering of plants or animal waste. This fertilizer has rich nutrient and no negative impact, it's very different from chemical fertilizers.
Using chemical fertilisers has caused many problems such as degraded ecosystems, loss of soil fertility, deasease and dependence of farmes to using chemical fertilizers. Consequently, using organic fertilizer is highly recommended.

The adventage of using organic fertilizer is:

1. Source of nutrients includes macro and micro nutrients like nitrogen, fosporus, calcium, calium, sulfur, magnesium, zinc, ferum, cuprum etc.
2. Improve physics and structure of soil
3. Improve chemical of soil
4. Improve biology activity of soil and improve water storage capacity.

Compost fertilizer is made from organic waste and waste of animals. It is very easy to make compost fertilizer and effectively to the plants. The adventages of compost:

1. To suplay macro nutrient for plants
2. Can friable to soil
3. To improve structure and texture of the soil
4. Increase porosity of the soil and composition of micro organisme in the soil
5. Increase water holding capacity
6. Facilitate of roots growth
7. Environmentaly friendly and cheaper price than chemical fertilizers.
