Central Sulawesi and Central Java Visited

The project targets three provinces: Central Sulawesi, Central Java, and North Sumatra. The first two were visited by officers at the Ministry of Industry and the JICA Expert Team from 11 to 13 April 2013 and from 21 to 23 April 2013 respectively.

They had meetings with the provincial governments (DINAS Industry and Trade, in particular) to explain the project and make requests for the establishment of Local Working Group (LWG) and placement of the facilitator. LWG is like a stakeholders' committee for local industry development, composed of the provincial and district/city governments, support institutions, private service providers, and target industries. LWG together with the facilitator is supposed to engage in planning, implementing, and monitoring local industry action plans for target industry after they participate in the facilitation training.

During the visits, the Expert Team also visited some SMIs in target industry: Cacao processing and rattan furniture industries in Central Sulawesi and metalwork industry in Central Java. The visits provided opportunities to grasp the picture of the target industries and listen to the issues faced by the SMIs.
