LWGs and Facilitators Assigned

During May and June, the Expert Team advised and supported counterparts to establish Local Working Groups (LWG) and assign facilitators in each target region, which are responsible for planning and implementing a local industry action plan.

The head of Regional Dinas Industry and Trade represents each LWG, and shindan-shi or industry extension staff in Dinas Industry and Trade were appointed as facilitators. LWGs consist of representatives from Dinas Industry and Trade, other Dinas in sectors closely related to the target industry, Regional Development & Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), local universities, financial institutions, cooperative/ association of the target industry. Provincial or District Governor supports the establishment of LWG by issuing his decree. Kick-off meetings were then held in each region for sharing common understandings on the Project activities and goals. During the course of the Project, LWGs are expected to perform planning, implementation and monitoring of support activities, while discussing with the target industry and the other related supporting institutions for the support activities.

In parallel, the Directorate General for Small and Medium Industry, the Ministry of Industry, also formed Project Implementation Unit (PIU) to provide guidance and advice for LWG activities in each region, thus establishing the model platform for local industry development.
