Aloe Processing Industry in Pontianak City: Technical Guidance of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

A challenge Action of the Action Plan for the aloe processing industry development in Pontianak is to establish the firm presence of the aloe-processed food/beverage products produced in Pontianak in domestic/urban modern markets through improvement and standardization of the product quality. In July 2015, the technical guidance to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), as one of the most significant activities to achieve the challenge action, was commenced by utilizing support resource by the Directorate General of SMI (DG-SMI) of the Ministry of Industry. The guidance, consisting of the total three times of field visit and on-site consultation, targets three aloe-processing SMIs as a pilot model to establish success cases. At the first step, the experts dispatched by DG-SMI visisted those SMIs for on-site consultation, and performed the gap analysis to compare the current situation of the production practices of the target SMIs with the standards reqruired for GMP certification. The target SMIs have been taking various measures to eliminate those gaps identified through the analysis, while will receive the experts' guidance on documentation and implementation of adequate production practices according to the GMP standards.

Whereas this technical guidance has been funded by DG-SMI, the target SMIs were identified through a series of field visit and discussion whereby all the members of the Local Working Group (LWG) together studied the current conditions of several candidate SMIs in the city. This created a sense of determination that the LWG would coordinate and collaborate with each other for the subsequent support activities proposed in the Action Plan with the shared direction and goal.
