Network monitoring system training held in December 2016

A total of 13 trainees from Laos, Timor-Leste, and Brunei Darussalam participated in the training to have technology transfer on the open source licence network monitoring system.

Commercial license network monitoring systems are generally expensive and it is almost impossible for users to modify the systems. Hence, quite a few of ASEAN national CERTs are interested in open source license network systems.

Meanwhile, ID - SIRTII/CC has developed Open Source based software, Mata Garuda, meaning hawk's eye in the Indonesian language, in cooperation with Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya in order to monitor domestic networks in Indonesia. ID-SIRTII/CC uses the Mata Garuda along with commercial monitoring systems.

Under these circumstances, the Project has planned and carried out training, which covers from development to operation of the systems for the three countries that showed interests in using Mata Garuda.

The training was held from 21st Nov to 2nd Dec at Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya, developer of the system. The lecture was provided by lecturers and Post-Graduate students of Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya, and managers of ID-SIRTII/CC.

The participating trainees expressed their desire to install and operate the Mata Garuda at the soonest possible after going back to their home country. It is expected that mutual communications among the 4 countries will become more active through usage of the Mata Garuda.
