National training on traceability system in SMEs

The captioned national training on traceability was held in Jakarta on 13th - 15th August 2019. It aims to train officers of Badan POM at central and regional levels, for disseminating and implementing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), record keeping and documentations in small and medium-sized food business enterprise (SMEs). Traceability is a very important issues and the Project has taken up this matter since the beginning to give technical advice and support development of relevant guidelines.

Badan POM provincial/district officials are directly involved in and responsible for providing technical guidance and advice to SMEs. Thus, 55 Badan POM provincial/district officers, along with 30 BPOM officials, which comes to in total 85 officers, attend this training programme.

In the opening session, Dra. Reri Indriani, Apt., M.Si, Deputy Chairperson for Processed Food Control, highlighted the need for GMP and traceability for small and medium-sized food businesses. This was followed by Mr Ikuo Tsukamoto, DVM, JICA Long-term Expert on Food Safety, who explained the history of activities such as technical guidance on traceability in the Project.

In all BPOM trainings, all participants took a pre-test on the first day and a post-test on the last day to assess their knowledge. The training consisted of lecture sessions and group work, with the first and second days focusing on GMP and the third day on traceability with technical guidance by Mr Ikuo Tsukamoto.

BPOM has decided to include "traceability system in SMEs" as one of the topics in its regular annual on-site training on food safety, to raise awareness among stakeholders. The Project plans to distribute 1,000 copies of this guideline, which will be disseminated to SMEs across the country, led by the officials who participated in this training.
