To support Badan POM amidst the outbreak of the COVID-19, JICA has handed over a list of equipment and consumables for PCR testing during the JCC meeting, to PPPOMN and 14 laboratories of Badan POM.

These 15 laboratories have joined the national surveillance for COVID-19 and dedicated to the analytical work for the detection of the viruses - SARS-CoV-2. Laboratory scientists have endeavored to fulfill the gaps of testing capacity in provinces and reach the benchmark of testing numbers as recommended by WHO.

PCR testing has become common in public health investigation including food safety. Thus, the provision of the equipment and related items from JICA is expected to help enhance the laboratory capacity and ensure accuracy of testing results in terms of overall public health issues undertaken by Badan POM.

The items to be provided include: RT-qPCR systems (5units); 96-well plate centrifuge (1unit); PCR testing kits (53boxes); automated extractors (14units); reagents (225boxes); biosafety cabinets (2units); refrigerated centrifuge (1unit); consumables (1215pax); and micropipette (1unit).
