An official side event is held at the 72nd Annual WHO Meeting on Home-based Records for Mothers and Children

The Indonesian Ministry of Health held an official side event at the 72nd WHO Annual Meeting (WHA) in collaboration with Kenya, Laos, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Japan and others. At the side event, WHO Executive Secretary officially launched an international guideline on home-based health records for mothers and children developed by WHO in September 2018. The Indonesian Minister of Health gave an opening speech and each country (Director General of Indonesia, Director General of Kenya, The Philippine Minister, Director of Afghanistan, Director General of Laos) gives an example of the active use of home-based records. There were also remarks from the Minister of Myanmar, the Director of India, UNICEF, World Vision, and the International Federation of Medical Students. Under different circumstances in each country, it was announced that the MCH Handbook operates as an integrated format of home-based record, and the governments of each country are actively working on the need to operate it effectively for maternal and child health. The event was held as one of 20 official side events selected from a large number of proposals, with around 250 participants. Strong messages were sent to all participating countries and WHO and other partner institutions to help mothers and children around the world benefit from a home-based record.

The side event proposal were made by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Kenya Ministry of Health and JICA supported both countries. On the day of the event, JICA's Senior Advisor on Health, Ms. Keiko Osaki was a panellist.
