Integrated Child Health Checkup Webinar

The Project co-organized the Integrated Child Health Checkup (ICHC) webinar with Indonesia Ministry of Health (MOH) on 28th April 2021.

The main objectives of the webinar were; to acquire an idea to conduct ICHC during COVID-19 pandemic from Japanese experience, and to modify/finalize the ICHC technical guideline especially the management against COVID-19 pandemic

More than 300 of Health care workers and Administration staff and others participated in the webinar. Participants were from the Ministry of Health, Provincial Health Offices, District Health Offices of entire Indonesia and JICA Headquarters, JICA Indonesia Office and the Project.

In the webinar, following to the opening speech by the Acting Director General of Public Health, MOH to welcome participants and briefing the objectives, the Director of Family Health, MOH presented on the Maternal and Child Health situation, relevant activities and challenges in Indonesia.

Second sessions were made by the local health offices of Surakarta city and Sleman regency for updating the ICHC preparation situation. Surakarta presentation outlined home visits to maintain Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services under the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the MCH routine activities such as growth monitoring and immunization. Sleman presenter presented risk mitigation approaches by mapping of COVID-19 risk areas and infection prevention and control in service area. New adaptations of Integrated Antenatal Care such as limiting health care service on certain days, shorten the waiting time by appointments, consultation service via online were also shared with participants.

JICA MCHHB project made introductory presentations on the project activities with its plan of action as well as to introduce the general information on the Japanese child health checkups. JICA senior advisor made a short presentation to introduce the Nurturing Care Framework for Early Childhood Development, a global framework in the era of SDGs, which can be applicable and merged into the ICHC concept in Indonesia.

In the webinar, there were special presentations made by the three Japanese guest speakers; Ms. Hoshino and Ms. Suzuki, Public health nurses working at Oyoko Public Health Center, Hachioji City, Tokyo, and Ms. Fujimori of Ogasawara Health Center, Tokyo.

Ms. Hoshino made a presentation titled "Child Health checkup in Oyoko Public Health Centre during COVID-19 pandemic" to outline the MCH status, child health checkup services being provided, challenges and countermeasures. She explained the contents and features of regular child checkup of 4 months, 18 months, and 3 years old baby respectively in her presentation.

Ms. Fujimori presented "Child health checkup at Ogasawara village under Corona pandemic" which focused on countermeasures being taken to implement child health checkup with preventing corona virus infections. Many photos were placed among her presentation for the participants to be able to visually understand the countermeasures against COVID-19 infection.

After the presentations, the webinar moved to the discussion and Q &A sessions. There were many questions raised by participants to each presenter. Discussion referred to how Japanese health centers has maintained the quality of MCH services, utilization of electrical application on MCH service in Japan, actual human resource management procedures to operate the child health checkup and relevant health activities at the health centers.

The webinar was concluded by the Director of Family Health to thank Japanese guest speakers and JICA for co-organizing the online seminar with valuable presentations. She also wished her hope to continue mutual collaborations to enhance quality of ICHC service and successful implementations of the next planned actions of the project.

The Project look forward to the continued cooperation with MOH for the strengthen MCH services.
